TEXAS Northwest Assistance Ministries Provides food, clothing, household items, financial assistance for rent or mortgage, natural gas and water; transportation, medical and dental referrals and prescriptions and legal assistance; Assists unemployed, under-employed and those temporarily unable to adequately feed, house or clothe their families or themselves. Part of the IHN network. IHN is a collaboration between area congregations of faith offering hope, care and personal attention to homeless families who are drug/alcohol free and mentally stable. Star of Hope Ministries Offers emergency shelter for single women, and women with children; Within this facility is a medical clinic, a nursery and pre-school area, a computer learning center and a hair salon. Education is strongly encouraged with all residents. Walk-ins are accepted for an initial two month period. Single women reside in a large room with four beds, and a private bathroom; families get a private room. Counseling, bus tokens, clothes distribution center, chapel, bible studies, and free events such as movies and concerts are among the many free activities offered. Also offers a long-term transitional program for women needing more assistance, with practical rewards for completion of the program. The programs are operated by staff and volunteer ministries, as well as light "work assignments" by the residents. Maranatha Church This church has a women's ministry as well as a food ministry. Marantha Food Ministry is an outreach to the community. It provides groceries to needy families both in the church and in the surrounding community. There is a Pantry Workday on the third Wednesday of every month from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. Volunteers prepare boxes and stock shelves with groceries that are brought in from the Houston Food Bank. The Food Pantry is available for needy families to pickup food boxes on Mondays from 10:30am to 11:30am. Recipients must go to the Maranatha Bookstore, located in the Foyer of the Church for a voucher before food will be given. The Christian Assistance Ministry This ministry provides a place to stay during the day, offering shelter from the weather, laundry/shower facilities, a library, TV with VCR for educational videos, and a central location for representatives from other area agencies to meet with you. Assists with food, clothing, some financial aid, counseling, budget training and referrals to other agencies for longer term shelter. Works with a coalition of many area churches of various denominations. If they can't help you - they can find someone who can! OUTSIDE TEXAS (Oklahoma)
This ministry provides free shelter for single women over age 21 who are temporarily without a place to live. Also offers a longer term program of restoration and healing with teaching, personal ministry and support groups. The Angeline Christian Home This is an emergency shelter for women located on the west side of Cleveland providing food, clothing and other basic necessities. Staff and volunteers provide counseling and spiritual guidance. The Wayside Christian Mission Operates a single women's emergency shelter (28 beds), a single women's transitional shelter (26 beds), a single women's halfway house and a woman's day shelter; operates a dining hall (3 hot meals daily), chapel, two thrift stores, educational classes (GED and computers classes on-site) as well as a Discipleship Program/Job Training Program.
